Talbot Mentors x Shore Lit
Are you interested in becoming a Read Aloud Mentor?
Shore Lit is partnering with Talbot Mentors, an organization with 25+ years of experience fostering intergenerational mentor relationships in our local community, to pilot an exciting new initiative aimed at addressing low literacy levels among early readers in Talbot County.
Together, we are sponsoring a cohort of passionate adult book lovers — that’s you! — who commit to a reading-focused mentoring relationship with a local elementary student throughout the spring and summer of 2026. Our mentors will create experiences of wonder and joy around books, reading, and storytelling (rather than teaching specific academic skills or following a literacy curriculum).
Shore Lit will be recruiting mentors for the pilot program throughout the month of August, 2025. Talbot Mentors will vet potential volunteers, assign mentee matches, and conduct training in Fall 2025. The mentoring program will run roughly February through July 2026, with mentor-mentee pairs committing to meeting approximately once a week during that timeframe. No prior education or mentoring experience is required.
